November Interview

This month we interview Mr Justis Tan on Dance Competition.

1. For how many years have you been dancing?
I started dancing in Aug 2001. 6 Years

2. What was your first dance competition and how did it feel back then?
Suntec Dance 2002. Very exciting and humbling. Felt really good to dance and see fellow dance enthusiasts come together to exchange pointers and dance experience.

3. How do you prepare for competition?
Decide my objective of joining, sort my mentality out, focus & prioritize, decide method of presentation & how to stand out, next is the basically fundamental stuff: putting concept/music/choreography together, clean up my act (where time is possible) over & over.

4. Where did you get your inspiration?
The environment, the Internet, people around me, fellow dancers.

5. What deters you?
My physical limitations having started late and being injury-prone and having a considerable history of injuries & poor health. And financial ability limiting my desire to go overseas to further my dance education. And last but not least, lack of family support & understanding for my passion in dance.

6. Do you have a good luck ritual?
Talking to myself if it gets too nervy & tense. Big event or heavy expectations can cause that. Else, I just take a deep breath and go for it!
