What got you started to dance?
I've always wanted to join dance but being a juvenile groupie in my younger
days, I always ended up joining all sort of CCAs like rock climbing, kayaking, girl
guides and even science club along with my friends. I started taking fitness
classes after 'A' levels purely to act as a cardio workout for me. Little
did I know that I'll actually fall in love with Hip Hop. I then decided to
join NUS Dance Blast and Studio Wu to further pursue my interest for
Hip Hop dance. Later, I became more and more involved with this new-found
passion. At the moment I'm trying to take up other genres of dance so as
to improve technically now.
What made you want to sign up for 3G?
Since I've only started out dancing for less than 2 years, I was in desperate
need for a dance course which can train me on the basic-but-yet-vital techniques.
I chanced upon the 3G course when I was at Studio Wu and was very sure that
I'm going to try my luck in the audition for it. Though the thought of an
audition sounded rather intimidating to me, it was passion versus fear
and before I realized it, I graduated from the course already!!
How was the whole experience of the 3G sessions?
The experience was grrrrrreat!! I've made tonnes of diva-ish friends (pun
intended since we're in the 3G diva course.. haa) and it's really fun to
dance and learn together. This course is not just about dancing, but it's
also about makeup, girls' styling and definitely building up our confidence
to perform on stage. It had definitely molded me into a more mature (pun
intended yet again) dancer. Though the 6 months course is coming to
an end real soon, it's definitely not an end to my dance interest. In fact,
it acted as a catalyst to spur me further and it also made me realized that
I can seriously be involve in dance related jobs after I graduate from
NUS.
Anything happened during trainings that you would
like to share?
Hmm... I guess that the mini performance we had during the master class was
the most memorable. We were grouped up into smaller groups the week before
and had to put up a short performance which will require us to wear costumes
and makeup. As I was absent the week before, I didn't know of it till the
day of the mini performance itself!! As I was dressed up casually in my tracks
pant and tee, my group decided that our costumes will be the 'Lepak' theme
(meaning 'relac' in Malay) as we had no choice. Haha! It was such a contrast
from the rest of the groups as they really put in effort to look like Harajuka
girls and paint workers!! But it was really enjoyable as it was really quite
a professional mini performance put up by my fellow 3G mates!!
How was the performing experience at EVOKE?
One word. AWESOME!!! I totally enjoyed the entire experience including the
practices, rehearsals, full runs and of course, the actual shows! I've made
so many friends who shared the same passion with me. It's such
an honor for me to be able to share the same stage with so many great
dancers/instructors. Such chances don't come often!! Therefore, I really
appreciate those that gave me a chance to be involved in this production.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Any last shout outs to out readers out there?
Dancing with the feel is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another!
So what are you waiting for!! :p
