Andy – A unique blend of creative juices in a rational frame.

From a very tender age, Andy started appreciating the intricate lyrics and beautiful melodies of songs of diverse genres. In them, he found a reflection of human life and stuff that he could identify with his train of thoughts. To him, singing is an invaluable tool to commune his feelings and emotions to everyone else, and something he will continue to explore and relish doing.

As nature would have it, Andy’s love for singing led to his foray into dance. Together with his crew, White Rhythm, he won numerous dance competitions such as the Suntec Dance and Funkamania. As a dancer, Andy has performed in several concerts and major events for companies like Adidas, MTV and Samsung. On the teaching front, Andy is an instructor with Studio Wu and also teaches at various schools. His choreography has been showcased in the 6th Global Chinese Music Awards and CLEO 50 Most Eligible Bachelors Finals amongst other corporate events. Andy has also been invited to judge numerous dance competitions such as Funkamania and Dance! Crown of Honour.

Having dabbled in various dance forms over the years, Andy found Hip Hop dance closest to his heart. Expect anything from high octane thumping Hip Hop moves to smooth lyrical RnB grooves in his class. He is of the view that everybody has the freedom to dance and that there’s a dancer inside every single one of us. Taking the first brave step and giving yourself the chance to discover a whole new exciting world is often the biggest stumbling block. So lose your inhibitations!

A firm believer that the learning journey never ends, Andy continually looks forward to going overseas to upgrade, interact and eventually share the knowledge. Enjoying the healthy balance between work and play, Andy is also more than enthusiastic to lend a helping hand to any one out there who has a desire to pursue their performer dreams and contribute positively to the local arts scene.

CONVERSATIONS WITH INSTRUCTOR

1.  Geeky bespectacled Dunman High student, wannabe PWC accountant. Past life buried deep?

*GASP* How did you find out?! Haha. I must admit I looked GEEKY back in my Primary and Secondary School times. And that’s the reason why my old IC photo is one of my prized possessions… Never seems to fail in making people burst out into hysteria. It’s like magic!

Let me clarify that I never “wannabe” a PwC auditor. Believe it or not, I wanted to be archeologist when I was a kid. Until I realized that Indiana Jones was not your typical archeologist. My first dream was shattered. Subsequently, there were a whole myriad of occupations I “wannabe”, ranging from professional soccer player to kungfu pugilist to singer/dancer. But never an auditor.

Yet reality bites and you can say I was living out my parents’ ideals all my life up to the point I took the plunge and decided to pursue my passion. Everything happens for a reason and I have no reason whatsoever to bury my past life. All of it contributes to the Andy you see today =P

2.  So from left brain, you developed your right brain. Was it a conscious effort or a desire to break free?

Being a Piscean, I’ve always had a sea of imagination. Guess there’s only so long you can deprive this fish of his ocean.

That said, I seriously appreciate being able to employ both sides of my brain effectively without either side feeling jealous. Haha!

3.  Is it everything that you make it out to be?

Nope. I dream BIG! So there’s always room for improvement.

As one of my mentors would say, “Reach for the stars and you’ll get at least the moon!”
