Lixin likes a lot of things, have many mini interests but never seem to find the time to fully pursue or to attain most of them. She loves reading although she doesn’t look quite the reading sort, and she enjoys being in the company of people whom she’s comfortable with, especially people she’s comfortable with as she is really an introvert by nature.
She’s got a jack russel terrier and a “stray” cat sharing the family home. They provide her with endless joy and entertainment with their quirky antics whenever she’s home.
She loves travelling and looks forward to the day where she could travel much more, and to meet and get to know different people.
She likes the idea of independence, and wishes she could truly be an independent individual, brave enough to make at least a solo trip somewhere overseas someday.
I was based in Shanghai for 6mths, but travelled around China and have been to Beijing twice or thrice. The experience changed me quite abit I must say. Both good and bad. Good: I broadened my perspective on a lot of things, learnt a lot about “working” and gained loads of experience and insight into the Events Industry, as well as how business is done in China.
It definitely made me more independent as I was far away from home, yet have never been closer to my family as we skype and see each other via video every single night!
Now that I’ve graduated, I’m at the stage where I have to decide what I want to do with life, like, seriously think and plan for at least the next 2 years. For now, I’m focusing on making my Grad Trip an experience of a lifetime, where I’ll travel around Western Europe for a full month with my cousin (both our grad trips!). This time is for me to take myself totally out of my environment in Singapore, and give me time and space to reflect and plan for my next steps.
But, whatever it is, Dancing will definitely be part of it.
Well, the person who raised me and made me who I am today is my very dear late Grandmother. She was the one who instilled most of my “good qualities” and all my good morals (of course Daddy and Mummy and all my other relatives and teachers and….. etc etc… did play a part too..) and the “bad stuff” about Lixin, well, that just happened as I got “contaminated” along the way as I made my way through the education system in Singapore.
Well, those were all part of growing up I suppose.
Now that I’m much older, my greatest influence besides the people around me, is my own heart. I tend to “feel” more than think, or even when I think, what I “feel” will override everything.
Dancing without thinking, dancing based on feeling, dancing without inhibition, brings about the greatest momentary joy. And it is something I am trying to work towards.
I believe there is no outright “right or wrong” in dance, because it basically stems from within, and the music just brings it out in you. Dancing does not mean that one has to do complicated moves, or make use of all parts of the body, so, along this line, something as simple as bobbing your head or tapping your feet/fingers when you hear a piece of music that inspires those reaction, could be considered dancing.
verb (used without object)
1. to move one’s feet or body, or both, rhythmically in a pattern of steps, esp. to the accompaniment of music.
2. to leap, skip, etc., as from excitement or emotion; move nimbly or quickly: to dance with joy.
3. to bob up and down: The toy sailboats danced on the pond.
As above, according to Dictionary.com, the word “Dance” as a verb could be as simple as to bob up and down, to leaping, skipping etc. Basically, just moving to music! ;)
So in my daily life, whenever I listen to music that makes me feel like moving, I move. In the train, in the bus, one would most probably find me tapping my feet or bobbing my head or even semi-“fidgeting” when I find inspiration there and then to choreograph something. J
So everyone, come up with your own definition of dancing because to each and everyone of us, dancing may mean different things, so long as it brings you joy, don’t stop dancing!
