Celine is someone who is bouncy, loves to talk, have fun and is outgoing. She loves to listen to music, watch movies (or maybe just being in the cinema itself), eat a lot, and not forgetting dance!

As a dancer, she wishes to touch the lives of others with simply the movement of her body alongside music. Celine is also a passionate instructor, determined to teach anyone that is willing to learn. As beautiful a choreography can get, Celine always believes that techniques are the ABCs that everyone should constantly work on, including herself.

Celine loves her class to be light-hearted and interactive. To her, the process of learning dance and just dance in itself should be one that it fun. People who attends dance classes or just freestyle/dance to the music, should feel happy and restrictions-free. So, Celine loves to create fun and joy in her classes, and connect to those people who wants to learn, inspiring them in a fun way. Dance should simply be fun!

CONVERSATIONS WITH INSTRUCTOR

1.  Bring us back to the moment when you discovered dance. Passion? Inspiration?

I first discovered dance when I was in SRJC. Sheila was our instructor then. Dance then seemed to be… something new. Something cool actually. Haha. However that really wasn’t my passion then. But dance, then, to me, started to become a way to release myself from stress, from studying.

Dance as a passion came only when I was in university. I started to join dance just before I entered NUS. Joined Studio Wu and attended as many classes as I could with the unlimited package back then. Carol and Sheila were actually my inspiration to start off, to strive to improve actually. Haha. I only did attend their classes at that time too.  Initially, dance was just like any other hobby. You know…. Do it if you are bored or as and when you like it. But slowly, I found myself feeling weird. Physically? Mentally? If I stopped dancing for a period. There is a want, to move around, to dance. I remember for the SMALLLEST performance or if I do not attend classes, I would ask the friends that I’ve made in Studio Wu to go to Esplanade to practice, have a “session” with me. Haha. And burn under the heat of the over-crowded underground space.

The time that I joined 3G (Girls’Groove Garage) Diva course, was really a turning point for me. I felt more connection to dance. I love it when I learnt how to PERFORM and EXPRESS myself through dance.

Up till now, I like it when I perform. I love the moments when I can feel the song and be into the song, be in another character. The way I can use my body to express different kind of music (of course those that I like) in different ways. I love the moments where I need to practice in my basics (both back then and now), practice for performances, practice for competitions. Even if my sleep/rest has to be sacrificed.

2.  You really have this passion in your eyes when you talk about dance. You really like it .

Haha. Like it?? LOVE IT!!!!! Dance has become not only something that I love. Dance is now…. Part of me. This is what makes up Celine. Ahahaha. Each time I hear to a piece of music that catches my attention (that’s like… most of the time), I would just feel like moving to the beat. Ahahaha.  I like sharing what I love. I’m  starting to explore the styles I like example reggae, jazz funk, a little waacking. I went to the extent of taking up popping level 1 course. hahaha. Never knew I would do that. But I kind of enjoyed it. Apart from sharing and teaching, I like to join competitions… train super duper hard for it (like SDD recently, CodeEdge2, Girls nation, Overdrive, WCG). And after which suffer withdrawal symptoms from the sudden drop in rehearsals. Ahaha.

I would also go overseas to experience their dance culture, to learn different styles of dancing. Japan, Taiwan, U.S. are some places that I’ve been to, to dance.

Ok… bottom line is.. I really cannot imagine myself to stop dancing TOTALLY.
